Apple Loses $368m Judgement

VirnetX won a judgment of $368m from Apple for patent infringement. The jury found Apple had infringed on two patents related to the Apple software, Facetime. Facetime is a software application that allows video calling on Mac computer, iPhones, and iPods. The two patents are owned by VirtnetX. One patent is for a method of creating a virtual private network (VPN) and the other regards a DNS security issue.

In closing arguments, attorney Doug Cawley of the law firm McKool Smith stated, “Apple says they don’t infringe. But Apple developers testified that they didn’t pay any attention to anyone’s patents when developing their system.”
