Medical Marijuana Products Not Permitted To Make Medical Claims Unless They Have Been Approved
Medical Marijuana Marketing? “No way,” says the FDA – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is responsible for making sure that any product for sale in the US which claims to have health benefits, actually does have health benefits. In order to protect the public from con artists, they require all health claims to be submitted for approval before they can be marketed to the public.
This restriction affects the medical marijuana community, especially because, according to Federal law, marijuana has no valid medical purpose; caregivers obviously disagree. Therein lies the conflict that has lead the FDA to begin cracking down on companies producing marijuana strains with high levels of CBD, used by many to treat a variety of illnesses, such as cancer, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and more. Hopefully soon the law, science, and patients needs will come into line. In the meantime, product packaging and marketing is not permitted to make medical claims unless they have been approved.
