Martin Professional, one of the leaders in the entertainment lighting industry, was granted a US design patent yesterday on an application filed January 11, 2012. Martin is currently known for their industry standard line of moving light fixtures with the prefix “Mac.”
The Mac Aura is a unique fixture because of the eye candy aura effect. This effect allows the LED lenses to illuminate in a different color than the light projected from the fixture.
A design patent differs from a utility patent in that design patents covers the design embodied in or applied to an article of manufacture (or portion thereof) and not the article itself. Design patents are valid for 14 years from the date of issue and do not have maintenance fees.
