Alan Hanson
Alan is a cannabis lawyer and the recognized cannabis credit union expert at Gleam Law based out of our Portland, OR office. His banking practice focuses on developing cannabis and hemp credit union divisions across many states – including Oregon, California, Washington, Colorado, Arizona, North Carolina, New York and New Jersey.
Prior to entering private practice and specializing in legal marijuana, hemp, and CBD cases, he spent 17 years as the General Counsel and Compliance Officer for Maps Credit Union. At Maps, he created and managed the first fully compliant cannabis credit union division in Oregon. This program remains the largest, most successful cannabis credit union division in the state. Additionally, it is used by the state credit union regulators as the example of how to properly operate a legal marijuana-related business banking program. Alan has extensive knowledge on cannabis banking and credit union compliance requirements along with the operational challenges to serve cannabis-related businesses.
Alan is a member of the Oregon State Bar and holds a J.D. degree from Willamette University, College of Law and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Oregon Institute of Technology. His wealth of experience in banking and credit unions enables him to better help a wide range of clients as a cannabis lawyer.
